Back To School: Summer Projects

The end of hot & humid weather can only mean one thing: it’s back-to-school time. Over the summer, Chapman completed these projects for local educational institutions, just in time to start the new academic year.

Boston College Football Locker Rooms

BC’s football team was greeted with an updated locker room when they returned from their summer break. New lockers were installed along with fresh carpeting and lighting with diming controls. The focal point of the newly renovated locker room is a dry wall cloud ceiling system that houses a custom LED BC logo light.

Boston College Theater

After 30 years of performances, BC’s Robsham Theater was in need of a refresh. The 6,000 sf space was completely renovated to include 567 seats, new carpeting, epoxy flooring, and thirty-foot refinished oak acoustic panels. One of the project’s biggest challenges was installing the new catwalk system that provides access to the new LED theater lighting. Completing the work within the project’s aggressive 3.5 week schedule required meticulous subcontractor coordination by Chapman’s team.

Babson College Keith Hall Towers

This 7,400 sf space was gutted and updated to include thirty refreshed dorm rooms, six remodeled bathrooms, and two updated common areas/lobbies. The plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems were revamped in both towers, including two new energy recovery units on the roof. Working on an 80% occupied campus posed some noise and safety challenges, but the design and construction team’s cooperative approach allowed the project to be completed seamlessly in time for the new school year.

Boston University Classrooms

Fourteen classrooms in BU’s Schools of Communication, Education, and Hospitality received facelifts, including AV and finish upgrades. High-efficiency LED lighting and high-recycled content carpeting were installed in the classrooms, aligning them with BU’s sustainability standards. The projects totaled 5,500 sf spread over three buildings in BU’s sprawling city campus. Thoughtful phasing and logistics, as well as a deep understanding of the City of Boston’s building requirements, were the keys to completing this work within a tight summer schedule.
