What's Chapman Doing?
At Chapman, sustainability is more than just a buzzword—it's our guiding philosophy. We've put this philosophy into action in a number of ways, some of which are described here.

Chapman Platinum LEED® Office Renovation
Chapman has completed a Platinum LEED-CI® renovation of its Newton headquarters, which includes a 47 kW photovoltaic system on the building's roof, generating more than 90% of Chapman's required electric power. In addition to the LEED certification, Chapman's office has earned the ENERGY STAR rating. Other highlights of the renovation include: replacing existing plumbing fixtures with highly efficient alternatives, reducing our water use by at least 50%; installing Solatube skylights and additional windows to allow more natural light into interior spaces, reducing our lighting power density by 50%; salvaging and re-using materials such as doors, lighting, metal studs, wood blocking, and masonry wherever possible; and using sustainable products such as FSC certified lumber, bamboo, and cork. Our hope is that our own office can provide inspiration to others to implement green strategies into their own facilities.

LEED® Training for All Chapman Employees
Chapman provides LEED training and study materials for all of its employees, and covers the cost of taking the USGBC's LEED Accredited Professional exam. Since the beginning of the program, more than 50% of Chapman's staff has earned the LEED AP designation.

Waste Reduction Program
Chapman has instituted a company-wide initiative to recycle a minimum of 70% of construction & demolition debris—including metal, wood, carpet, and drywall—on all projects. In addition, Chapman repurposes materials, furniture, and even household items and sporting goods through its Free Market system. Reusable materials such as light fixtures, doors, cabinets, and flooring materials, are documented and posted to the system, and offered up to clients, other ongoing projects, employees, and community organizations.

Emissions Reduction Program
Chapman's Annual Fuel-Efficient Vehicle Incentive Program rewards employees for making greener choices in their own lives. Employees can earn up to $1,000 annually for owning a vehicle that averages 40 mpg or better. Chapman also offers fuel-efficient company vehicles for employees traveling on company business. We're hoping that this innovative program will have a ripple effect, influencing not only our own employees, but also the people and organizations that they come into contact with every day.
